Liatris Blazing Star Collection – 40 Premium Liatris Spicata Corms
Add vertical drama and butterfly-attracting beauty to your garden with 40 Liatris spicata corms, commonly known as Blazing Star or Gayfeather. These native North American wildflowers produce striking purple flower spikes that bloom from the top down — the opposite of most flowers — creating a unique and eye-catching display. Liatris is one of the best perennials for attracting butterflies and hummingbirds.
Planting Instructions: Plant Liatris corms in spring, 2–3 inches deep and 12–15 inches apart. Place corms with the flatter, rougher side down and the slightly pointed or indented side up. They establish quickly and require minimal care once planted. Water regularly during the first growing season to establish a strong root system.
Growing Conditions: Liatris thrives in full sun and well-drained soil — even poor, sandy, or rocky soil. It is remarkably drought-tolerant once established and actually performs poorly in wet, heavy soils. Hardy in USDA Zones 3–9, making it one of the most cold-hardy summer-blooming bulbs available. Virtually maintenance-free and deer-resistant.
What to Expect: Liatris blooms in mid to late summer (July–August), producing striking purple-pink flower spikes 2–3 feet tall. Each spike is densely packed with fuzzy, feathery flowers that open from top to bottom over 2–3 weeks. With 40 corms, you’ll create a stunning mass planting that becomes a butterfly magnet. Liatris is a premier cut flower — spikes last 10–14 days in a vase and also dry beautifully for everlasting arrangements.
