Indulge your passion for dahlias with this exquisite collection of 8 premium tubers featuring a stunning range of purple hues. This collection includes Purple Gem Cactus Dahlias (3 tubers), Nuit D’été Cactus Dahlias (3 tubers), Lavender Perfection Dinnerplate Dahlia (1 tuber), and Thomas Edison Dinnerplate Dahlia (1 tuber). From spiky cactus blooms to massive dinnerplate flowers, this collection offers incredible variety and texture.
Planting Instructions: Plant dahlia tubers in spring after the last frost when soil temperatures reach 60°F (usually mid-April to May). Dig holes 4–6 inches deep and place tubers horizontally with the eye (growing point) facing up. Space dinnerplate varieties 18–24 inches apart and cactus dahlias 12–18 inches apart. Do not water until shoots emerge.
Growing Conditions: Dahlias thrive in full sun (6–8 hours daily) with rich, well-drained soil. Suitable for USDA Zones 8–10 as perennials; in Zones 3–7, lift tubers after the first frost and store in a cool, dry place over winter. Feed every 2–3 weeks with a balanced fertilizer once plants are established. Stake dinnerplate varieties for support.
What to Expect: Expect blooms from mid-July through the first frost. Cactus dahlias produce spiky, dramatic 4–6 inch blooms on 3-foot plants, while dinnerplate varieties deliver jaw-dropping flowers up to 10 inches across on 4-foot stems. The purple color palette ranges from deep, nearly black-purple to soft lavender. All varieties are outstanding cut flowers that last 5–7 days in a vase.
